...Dan Birchall, a volunteer at the Mauna Kea Visitor Information Station, said at 5 p.m. that the temperature there was 38 degrees.

"We don't have snow here; the lowest snow is about 10,500 feet up," he said. "We have rain here. It's been raining pretty steadily at this level. The rain is not too bad, though. It's a misty rain, not like in Hilo. At the summit, it was snowing. It's let up a little bit; the road is still closed, though."
